Join the New Economy Network Australia (NENA) for a series of three online workshops (23 April, 21 May and 18 June), designed to strengthen the localisation movement in Australia.
The series is facilitated by the Co-Convenors of NENA's Localisation Hub - Henry Coleman of Local Futures and Anisa Rogers of the Degrowth Network Australia. These workshops are designed to address some of the needs of those already active in the localisation/new economy space, and they can also provide an introduction to key issues for those new to localisation.
We really look forward to seeing you online!
(PLEASE NOTE - The Zoom link will be the same for ALL 3x Workshops)
WORKSHOP 1: 'GETTING ON THE SAME PAGE'

In workshop 1 we'll explore what localisation is and why it's an important focus:
- Review some common misconceptions about localisation
- Strengthen your understanding of the global-to-local framework
- Raise queries and criticisms
- Hear from 3-4 on-the-ground practitioners of localisation projects in different parts of the country
- Meet and discuss the topic with like-minded people in breakout rooms
WORKSHOP 2: FACING CHALLENGES (PART 1) - COMMUNICATING A NEW PARADIGM
Wednesday 21 May @ 7pm-8.30pm AEST
In workshop 2 we'll develop your ability to effectively communicate a positive vision for a more local future in your community and increase engagement in your projects:
- Hear from localisation/new economy activists in other parts of the country who may have faced similar challenges to you in communicating their vision
- Workshop your communication skills and increase your ability to inspire others with a big-picture vision
- Gain new language to approach people with different backgrounds/worldviews and build bridges
- Strengthen your connections with others doing localisation/new economy work in Australia
WORKSHOP 3: FACING CHALLENGES (PART 2) - RESOURCING AND STRUCTURAL SUPPORT
Wednesday 18 June @ 7pm-8.30pm AEST
In our final workshop in the series, we'll link in with World Localisation Day and discuss ideas about how to 'hack the system' and address common challenges around resourcing, regulations, governance, and more:
- Discuss your specific concerns about how to overcome structural challenges to localisation given the current legal/political/economic systems in place at local, municipal, regional and national levels,
- Get direct input from Local Futures’ founder Helena Norberg-Hodge and benefit from decades of experience
- Draw on your experience to help answer others’ queries
- Cement your connections with others doing localisation/new economy work in Australia.
